GERMAN LINES AFRICA

-Modern buses for passenger transport in Cameroon-

Project Name: German Lines Africa

Project owner: The German House Cameroon Sarl

In the beginning, long-distance bus travel was viewed rather sceptically in Germany. Today, they are comfortable, hygienic, just-in-time, cheap and the biggest competitor to rail transport. In Cameroon, things are still somewhat different. Rail transport is almost non-existent. The main means of passenger transport are the so-called "moped boys" with their motorbikes. There are a few long-distance buses on the main routes between the big cities (Douala/Yaounde/Bafoussam). But unfortunately, travelling with them is not nearly on the same level as one knows from Europe from the "Flixbussen". However, creating stable business activities also requires a good road transport network and satisfactory domestic transport. The former is a top priority on the Cameroon government's agenda and is developing rapidly. However, domestic transport is already massively below its capacity and will not be able to fill this gap without appropriate private sector intervention. This is the aim of the foundation of GermanLines, a cooperation project between afriboom GmbH and the Cameroonian subsidiary "The German House Cameroon".

Hygiene, comfort and innovation are just three of the many points on the agenda that will ensure a unique selling proposition and success.

Depending on the situation, our motivation for this foundation can be explained relatively quickly. For anyone who has ever been to Douala/Younde/Baffousam, this step that we would like to take will be quickly apparent and logically comprehensible. The market for PTU in Cameroon is very diverse. There are two big competitors who have worked their way up in the last few years. The buses are overcrowded on every trip. Roughly, each company is divided into a fleet consisting of buses, which are able to transport a capacity of about 50 people, and minibuses, which are designed for about 10-15 people. However, for both variants, the capacity utilisation is by far more than 120%. We want to establish standards that Europeans take for granted in this market. If the passenger decides to travel with our PTU, he or she can rest assured that the maximum number of passengers is on the bus, that the drivers are qualified to drive the bus and that the bus has been properly maintained. By doing this, we aim to keep our accident and breakdown rate close to 1% and quickly build a reputation that we can use to advertise consistency in safety, punctuality and comfort. We want to make our routes of 250-350 km comfortable and easy so that in the future, even the middle class businessmen and entrepreneurs can reach the economic hubs of Cameroon as quickly as possible. Our PTU is thus intended as a symbolic project for the background work we have been doing for more than 15 years now. With our expertise in Cameroon, we are able to react as quickly as possible to regional events and adapt to the needs of the locals.

As soon as the project has reached the funding threshold, we will be able to start. We would like to increase our fleet step by step. So we are starting with the purchase of 5 buses from our partner alga Commercial vehicle and construction machinery GmbH & Co. KG. Once these have passed through customs in Douala, we are able to sell tickets and run trips. We can be profitable from second one and grow with revenue and further capital from our crowd.

We will always provide security in the form of our own shares, funding measures, guarantees and Hermes guarantees in order to protect ourselves, but also our investors. These are therefore not 100% financings.

After the grace period of the loan has elapsed, afriboom GmbH will repay its debt to the investors from its daily income.

As a service-oriented PUT, the main service is the transport of passengers and/or objects on the Doala-Yaounde-Bafoussam route.
